Letting go of expectations

Letting go of any expectations you have, that are either being perceived from others or you put on yourself, is a true eye opener for me.


What are expectations? You really truly want to do well and achieve a certain goal. To achieve this goal, you will think and plan about the way/ways about how to get closer to what you want to achieve.


For me as one example is getting better at surfing. I felt the only way to get results is to always think while in the ocean and my mind was super occupied. It never really lead to me to catch any better waves. I felt I put myself under pressure to get better and also questioning about my performance every time I was in the ocean. Lately I have thought there must be another way that will lead me to the same goal. So what I started to do, was to accept where I am currently at and the small progress I am making. I wished to see more progress though, which lead me to have expectations to myself.


So letting go of these expectations, I decided to stop thinking but only focus on feeling. Feeling the board underneath me, feeling the water on my skin, enjoying the view around me and just being truly grateful for that precious time I am having.


That focus on being and only feeling has shifted something in me. I have let go of any expectations about myself. I felt so free and somehow catching waves became more fun and also I felt more progress than ever. So rather than seeing just one way, which was me thinking about how to improve, I shifted into feeling and being present while in the ocean.


So whenever you feel under pressure, stop thinking for a moment and truly be present and ask yourself what I need to see and be doing now? You will get soo many answers, as the expectations are of the table and you can truly create the perfect state you want to be in, leading you to be closer to achieving your goal. So please be kind to yourself during the process.
